The Coolpix S610 was a premium pocket compact announced by Nikon in August 2008, launched together with the Wi-Fi-equipped S610c variant. Its all-metal body and wide-starting zoom placed it near the top of the S series that season.
It combines a 10-megapixel 1/2.33-inch CCD with a 4x Zoom-Nikkor equivalent to 28-112mm and optical lens-shift Vibration Reduction. A 3.0-inch LCD fills the back, sensitivity reaches ISO 3200, and features include face-priority AF for up to twelve faces and an Active Child tracking mode. It measures 22.5mm thick and weighs 125g.
The 28mm wide end was still uncommon in 2008 compacts and helps with interiors and landscapes, while the metal shell wears better than plastic rivals. It suits everyday carry and travel snapshots; there are no manual exposure controls.
Distinguish the S610 from the pricier S610c when comparing listings — only the c model has Wi-Fi. Check the VR unit and zoom action, confirm the battery and charger are present and healthy, and look for dents on the metal body that can hint at drops affecting the lens mechanism.
