Nikon's flagship APS-C DSLR — 20.9MP with 153-point AF, 10fps, and 4K video. The DX king.
The Nikon D500 launched in 2016 as Nikon's long-awaited flagship APS-C DSLR, sharing the 153-point AF system and EXPEED 5 processor from the D5 flagship. It was the first serious DX sports camera since the D300s and immediately became the reference APS-C DSLR.
The 20.9MP APS-C sensor delivers excellent image quality with outstanding high-ISO performance. The 153-point AF system with 99 cross-type sensors is identical to the D5 — devastating for action tracking. 10fps burst with full AF. 4K 30p video. XQD and SD dual card slots.
Magnesium alloy body with full weather sealing. 3.2-inch tilting touchscreen. 100% viewfinder coverage. Built-in WiFi and Bluetooth with SnapBridge. 860g. Battery grip MB-D17 available. 200,000-cycle shutter.
Available used at mid-range prices — outstanding value for a flagship sports camera. The 1.5x crop factor provides effective 1.5x reach — a 200mm becomes 300mm equiv. The D7500 is lighter but the D500's AF is in a different league. One of the greatest APS-C DSLRs ever made.
