Nikon's first DX DSLR with Wi-Fi and GPS, plus a vari-angle screen and 24MP sensor.
The Nikon D5300 launched in 2013 as the first Nikon DX DSLR with built-in Wi-Fi and GPS. With a 24.1MP sensor without low-pass filter, vari-angle screen, and wireless connectivity, it added the features the D5200 lacked while maintaining excellent image quality.
Key features include the 24.1MP sensor without OLPF for maximum sharpness, 39-point AF with 9 cross-type, vari-angle 3.2-inch screen, built-in Wi-Fi and GPS, 5fps burst, and 1080p 60fps video. The monocoque carbon fibre body is lightweight but feels less sturdy than aluminium.
The D5300 was praised for adding Wi-Fi and GPS that the D5200 lacked. It is criticised for the lack of touchscreen which the D5500 later added. Image quality from the filter-free 24MP sensor is excellent.
Good value used. Check the vari-angle screen, Wi-Fi connectivity, and GPS lock. The D5500 adds a touchscreen; the D5600 adds Bluetooth. The D5300 offers the same image quality at a lower price.
