Nikon's F2 with basic Photomic prism — different from the Photomic A version (ID 1930).
The Nikon F2 Photomic is Nikon's professional 35mm SLR successor to the original F, equipped with the standard Photomic metering prism. Released approximately 1971, in production until 1980. All-mechanical titanium shutter. Nikon F mount.
35mm film SLR. Titanium shutter to 1/2000s (all-mechanical — battery-free shutter operation). Photomic metering prism (non-AI coupled). Accepts all Nikon F-mount AI and pre-AI lenses. At approximately 760g with Photomic prism. Nikon F mount.
The Photomic prism uses pre-AI metering coupling (requires physical coupling tab rather than the later AI index ridge). The titanium shutter provides reliable mechanical operation without battery. Succeeded by the AI-coupled Photomic A (see id=1930) and Photomic S variants.
On the used market the Nikon F2 Photomic is a classic professional film SLR. Condition checks: Photomic prism metering accuracy, titanium shutter at all speeds including 1/2000s, mirror operation, body condition. Nikon F mount.
