Nikon's consumer autofocus film SLR — basic AF with matrix metering for the F-mount system.
The Nikon F601 (F-601; marketed as the N6006 in North America) was released in 1990 as an autofocus 35mm SLR for Nikon F-mount with full PASM exposure control. Predictive AF tracking. Shutter speeds 30s to 1/2000, flash sync 1/125. 6V lithium battery (DL-223A or CR-P2). At approximately 650g without battery.
35mm SLR, Nikon F mount. Exposure modes: Program (P), Shutter-priority (S), Aperture-priority (A), Manual (M). Predictive AF tracking. Shutter: 30s to 1/2000s, Bulb. Flash sync at 1/125. 6V lithium battery (DL-223A or CR-P2). Approximately 650g without battery. Built-in pop-up flash. 35mm film format.
The F601 introduced predictive AF tracking to Nikon's mid-range F-mount SLR line — the second Nikon after the F-801 to include tracking AF. The 6V lithium battery (DL-223A/CR-P2) was new for Nikon AF SLRs, providing longer battery life than AA-based designs of the era. The full PASM exposure mode set provides both automated convenience and manual control.
On the used market the Nikon F601 is affordable as a vintage Nikon AF SLR. Condition checks: AF motor operation, shutter accuracy, mirror foam condition, 6V DL-223A/CR-P2 battery availability. Compatible with Nikon F-mount AF and AI lenses.
