The Nikkor 18mm f/3.5 Ai-S was Nikon's widest manual-focus rectilinear prime for the pre-AF era: at 18mm the near-180° diagonal field of view (98°) provides extreme environmental and architectural coverage. The 72mm filter thread is large for this focal length. The 0.25m MFD enables extreme foreground proximity at the ultra-wide end.
