Nikon's compact constant f/2.8 standard zoom for Z-mount — affordable alternative to the Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S.
The Nikon Z 28-75mm f/2.8 launched in 2022 as a more affordable and compact constant f/2.8 standard zoom for Z-mount, positioned below the S-line Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S. It offers professional f/2.8 speed at a significantly lower price and weight.
Optically very good — sharp across the frame at most focal lengths, though not quite matching the S-line 24-70mm in corner performance. Stepping motor AF is fast and quiet. Good close focus at 19cm at 28mm. Not S-line but well above kit lens quality.
Nikon Z mount with 67mm filter thread. Weighs just 565g — nearly half the weight of the 24-70mm f/2.8 S. No weather sealing. Minimum focus distance 19cm at 28mm — useful close-up capability. Plastic barrel keeps weight down. Control ring on the barrel.
Available used at mid-range prices. The 28mm starting point (vs 24mm) is the main optical compromise. The weight savings over the 24-70mm f/2.8 S are significant. For Z-mount shooters who want f/2.8 speed without the bulk and cost of S-line, this is excellent value.
