Nikon's compact 28mm f/2.8 for Z-mount — lightweight, affordable, and retro-styled special edition available.

The Nikon Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 is the standard-finish version of the compact Z-mount wide prime, optically identical to the Z 28mm f/2.8 SE in standard black. At 155g and 52mm filter thread it is among the lightest native Z-mount primes. Dust and drip resistant. The 28mm perspective on full-frame covers moderate wide-angle for street photography, documentary, and travel; on DX bodies it provides a 42mm equivalent.

The optical design uses 9 elements in 8 groups with 2 aspherical elements. Seven aperture blades. The 52mm filter thread is a Nikon heritage standard. At 155g the lens is very lightweight. Minimum focus distance of 0.19m. AF motor provides standard subject acquisition. No vibration reduction. f/2.8 maximum aperture. Standard black finish — optically identical to the SE variant.

The 28mm perspective provides wider environmental coverage than 35mm with less distortion than 24mm — associated with street and documentary photography. The 0.19m MFD enables close environmental framing. At 155g it adds near-zero carry weight to any Z body. The standard black finish suits photographers who prefer unobtrusive camera appearance over the SE's retro silver styling.
