Nikon's retro-styled 28mm pancake for Z-mount — SE silver finish designed to match the Zfc body.

The Nikon Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 SE is the Special Edition variant of the compact Z-mount wide prime, sharing identical optics with the standard Z 28mm f/2.8 in a retro silver and black cosmetic finish. The SE was released alongside the Z fc as a cosmetically matched set. At 160g and 52mm filter thread it is among the lightest native Z-mount primes. The 28mm perspective on full-frame provides moderate wide-angle framing for street photography, documentary, and travel; on DX bodies it provides a 42mm equivalent.

The optical design uses 9 elements in 8 groups. Seven aperture blades. The 52mm filter thread is a Nikon heritage standard. At 160g the lens is very lightweight. Minimum focus distance of 0.19m. AF motor provides standard subject acquisition. No vibration reduction. f/2.8 maximum aperture. SE cosmetic finish is silver and black; optically identical to the standard Z 28mm f/2.8.

The 28mm perspective is the widest standard focal length associated with street and documentary photography: environmental context is strong but perspective distortion is minimal, providing a look associated with photojournalism. The 0.19m MFD enables close-subject environmental framing without a dedicated macro lens. At 160g paired with the Z fc, the combination provides one of the lightest practical wide-angle mirrorless setups available.
