The Nikon Z 50-250mm f/3.5-6.3 VR appears to be an alternate listing of the Nikon Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR, Nikon's compact telephoto zoom for DX-format Z-mount cameras. Launched in 2019 alongside the Z 50, it provides a 75-375mm equivalent reach in a remarkably small and lightweight package for travel and casual telephoto work.

Image quality is impressive for a kit-class telephoto zoom. Centre sharpness is good throughout the range, with corners improving when stopped down a stop or two. The VR system provides effective stabilisation of around 5 stops, essential given the slow variable aperture. Autofocus uses a quiet stepping motor suitable for both stills and video recording.

Nikon Z mount, DX format. Filter thread is 62mm. Weight is just 405 grams. The retractable design requires unlocking before use. No weather sealing. The lens extends considerably at 250mm. Build quality is typical of kit-class zooms — functional plastic with a metal mount ring for durability.

Very common on the used market as part of Z 50 and Z fc twin lens kits. Check zoom and focus operation for smoothness. The slow maximum aperture at the long end demands good light. An excellent budget telephoto for casual use — upgrade to the Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 or Z 70-200mm f/2.8 for serious wildlife or sports work.
