Nikon's entry-level full-frame Z-mount mirrorless with IBIS and dual card slots.
The Nikon Z5 launched in 2020 as Nikon's most affordable full-frame mirrorless body. Using a 24.3MP sensor with 5-axis IBIS, dual SD card slots, and weather sealing, it offered a remarkably complete full-frame package at a price competitive with enthusiast APS-C bodies.
Key features include the 24.3MP sensor, 273-point phase-detect AF with eye detection, 4.5fps burst, 5-axis IBIS, and 1080p video without 4K at 60fps. The dual SD card slots provide redundancy that the Z6 lacks in its original version. Battery life is good at around 470 shots. The body uses the same EN-EL15c battery as the Z6 and Z7.
The Z5 is praised for bringing full-frame Z-mount at an accessible price with dual card slots and IBIS. It is criticised for the older sensor with less dynamic range than the Z6 II, lack of 4K 60fps, and the limited burst buffer. The 1080p-only video limits its appeal for hybrid shooters.
Good value used as the cheapest entry into the Z system. Check IBIS operation, both card slots, and shutter count. The Z6 II with its better sensor and video specs is worth the premium if budget allows. The Z5 remains an excellent landscape and portrait body.
