Nikon's retro-styled APS-C Z-mount body with heritage design and modern internals.
The Nikon Zfc launched in 2021 as a retro-styled version of the Z50, inspired by the classic Nikon FM2 film camera. Sharing the same 20.9MP DX sensor and AF system as the Z50, it wrapped modern mirrorless capability in a heritage design with analogue dials for shutter speed, ISO, and exposure compensation.
Key features include the same 20.9MP sensor, 209-point hybrid AF, 11fps burst, and 4K video as the Z50, plus a vari-angle flip screen (improved over the Z50's tilting screen). The body features metal dials, two-tone finish, and optional coloured grip accessories.
The Zfc and Z50 share identical imaging specifications. The choice is purely about design and handling preference. The Zfc's retro design with dials appeals to street and casual photographers; the Z50's DSLR-style grip is better for action and larger lenses.
Good value used. Check the analogue dials for smooth operation and the vari-angle screen hinge. The premium over the Z50 is entirely for the design. The Zfc with the SE 28mm f/2.8 prime kit is a particularly attractive combination.
