Olympus's 5MP budget FE compact (X-715 twin) — 2.8x zoom, xD storage, AA power, 2006.
The FE-115 was a 2006 entry in Olympus's budget FE series of point-and-shoot digitals, sold in some markets as the X-715 — both names appear on the shared instruction manual. It sat among the simplest cameras Olympus offered that year, pitched at first-time digital buyers on AA batteries and automatic everything.
Core specifications are a 5-megapixel 1/2.5-inch CCD paired with a 2.8x optical zoom lens. Storage is on xD-Picture Card and power comes from two AA cells, a convenient combination for the era's casual users. Operation is menu-light and almost entirely automatic, in keeping with the FE line's simplicity-first brief.
This is a camera for straightforward snapshots: point, zoom a little, shoot. AA power makes it one of the easier mid-2000s compacts to keep running today, and the 5MP CCD output has the slightly saturated character that draws digicam revival interest. It offers no manual control and modest low-light ability.
Used buyers should prioritise a working xD-Picture Card in the box, as the format is discontinued and cards now cost disproportionate money; the FE-115 has only minimal internal memory. AA cells sidestep battery worries entirely. Check the LCD for scratches, the lens cover and zoom action, and confirm images write to card without errors.
