Olympus's extended bridge camera — the IS-3000 with longer zoom range for film photography.
The Olympus IS-3000 is an advanced model from Olympus's IS series bridge cameras, positioned above the IS-1000 in the range with a longer zoom range and enhanced features. Produced in the early 1990s, it continued the IS concept of combining SLR-style handling with a fixed advanced zoom lens.
The IS-3000 provides a fixed 35–180mm equivalent zoom lens with Olympus multi-segment metering, multi-mode AF, spot metering capability, and various program modes. The longer zoom range versus the IS-1000 extends its reach for wildlife and sports use within the bridge camera concept.
The IS-3000 was aimed at enthusiast photographers who wanted the extended zoom range of a bridge camera with more metering and control sophistication than entry-level IS models. Like all IS-series cameras, it is a fixed-lens 35mm film system with no interchangeable lens capability.
Test shutter function by loading film or dry-firing. Check battery compartment for corrosion. Verify the longer zoom mechanism operates smoothly. Inspect viewfinder clarity. As a film camera, a test roll is the definitive check of all automatic functions including metering, AF, and film transport.
