Olympus's legendary standard zoom for MFT, the original PRO-series benchmark.
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO is the original standard zoom from Olympus's PRO lens line, launched around 2012. Providing a 24-80mm equivalent range at a constant f/2.8, it set the quality benchmark for MFT standard zooms. It remains one of the best arguments for the Micro Four Thirds system.
Optical quality is exceptional with outstanding sharpness across the frame from wide open. The focus clutch mechanism enables instant switching between AF and manual focus by sliding the focus ring. Build is fully weather sealed and freeze-proof. The lens is remarkably compact and lightweight for a constant f/2.8 zoom.
Micro Four Thirds mount only, 62mm filter thread. The OM System PRO II version offers updated ZERO coating but the same optical formula. The Panasonic Leica DG 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 offers more range but is not constant aperture. This original remains available at excellent used prices.
Strong value used as the PRO II has reduced original prices. Check the focus clutch mechanism, weather seals, and AF motor. This lens is optically almost identical to the PRO II at a significant discount. One of the finest standard zooms in any format.
