Olympus's motorised pancake zoom for MFT, collapsing to an ultra-thin profile.
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ is Olympus's motorised pancake zoom for Micro Four Thirds, launched around 2014. Collapsing to just 22.5mm thick, it transforms OM-D and PEN bodies into genuinely pocketable cameras. The EZ designation indicates the motorised zoom design.
Optical quality is adequate with decent centre sharpness. There is no optical stabilisation, relying entirely on body IBIS for handheld shooting. The motorised zoom is smooth for video but slower than a manual ring for stills photography.
Micro Four Thirds mount, 37mm filter thread. Competes directly with the Panasonic 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 Mega O.I.S. which includes built-in stabilisation. The Olympus relies on body IBIS while the Panasonic has its own.
Cheap used. Check the motorised zoom mechanism for smooth operation and the electronic contacts. The lens exists purely for compactness. For optical quality the manual-zoom 14-42mm versions are better; for video the motorised design is useful.
