Olympus's weather-sealed MFT macro — 1:1 at 120mm equivalent with fast MSC autofocus and compact 185g body.
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro is the MFT macro prime for the Olympus OM-D and PEN systems, providing 1:1 magnification at 0.19m minimum focus distance. The 60mm focal length provides a 120mm full-frame equivalent perspective and longer working distance than a 30mm or 45mm macro — relevant for subjects where physical approach is disruptive. At 185g and 46mm filter thread it is compact and lightweight for a 1:1 macro prime. MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) AF motor enables quiet operation for video recording.
The optical design uses 13 elements in 10 groups with ED elements for chromatic aberration correction at macro distances. Seven aperture blades. The 46mm filter thread is the compact MFT prime standard. At 185g the lens is lightweight. 1:1 magnification at 0.19m MFD. MSC AF motor provides fast, quiet AF. No optical stabilisation — Olympus/OM System bodies with 5-axis IBIS cover stabilisation. f/2.8 maximum aperture.
The 120mm equivalent at 1:1 magnification provides more working distance between the lens front and subject compared to shorter macro primes — at 0.19m minimum focus distance, approximately 12-13cm of clearance exists between the front element and the subject. ED optical correction minimises chromatic aberration at macro distances where fringing at focus edges is most visible. At f/2.8 on MFT the effective depth of field at 1:1 is extremely shallow — the 2x crop factor doubles depth-of-field relative to full-frame.
On the used market the M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 Macro is affordable as a compact MFT macro prime. Condition checks: AF motor response, focus ring smoothness through the full macro range, and 46mm front element for marks. Compatible with Olympus OM-D and PEN bodies for 5-axis IBIS coordination. Compatible with all Micro Four Thirds bodies from Panasonic, Olympus, and OM System.
