Olympus OM-40 with ESP multi-pattern metering and program mode, convenient multi-mode OM body at budget pricing.
The Olympus OM-40 (OM-PC in North America) is a consumer OM-system SLR from 1985 offering multi-mode exposure including program, aperture-priority, and manual with ESP (Electro-Selective Pattern) metering. The OM-40 brought multi-pattern metering to the compact OM platform.
The ESP metering evaluates multiple zones of the scene for more accurate exposure than centre-weighted alternatives, a significant advance for the consumer OM body. Program mode adds convenience, and the compact OM dimensions maintain the system's portability advantage.
Build quality is compact Olympus OM with quality construction. The OM-40 provides more automatic convenience than the OM-1/OM-2 while maintaining the OM lens and accessory system compatibility that gives access to the excellent Zuiko glass.
The OM-40 offers affordable OM-system multi-mode exposure on the used market. The ESP metering and program mode provide more convenience than classic OM bodies, making it a practical choice for everyday OM-system film photography.
