Olympus's groundbreaking weather-sealed MFT camera — the first OM-D with 5-axis IBIS that changed everything.
The Olympus OM-D E-M5 was released in 2012 as the weather-sealed flagship MFT mirrorless, featuring a 16.1MP Live MOS sensor and 5-axis IBIS (approximately 4-5 stops). 1080i/60i (interlaced) video. Built-in 1,440K-dot OLED EVF (1.15×, 120fps). BLN-1 battery (~360 shots CIPA). At approximately 425g with battery.
16.1MP Four Thirds Live MOS sensor. Video: 1080i/60i (interlaced — not 1080p/60fps). 5-axis IBIS (approximately 4-5 stops in practice; Olympus rates 5 stops). Built-in 1,440K-dot OLED EVF (1.15× magnification, 120fps refresh). BLN-1 battery (~360 shots CIPA). Approximately 425g with battery. Weather/dust sealing. Micro Four Thirds mount.
The original E-M5 was the first weather-sealed MFT mirrorless and the first small MFT body with 5-axis IBIS: the stabilisation system and weather resistance positioned it against APS-C DSLRs for outdoor photography. The 1080i video output is interlaced, not progressive — the later E-M5 Mark II (2015) added 1080p/60 and improved IBIS performance.
On the used market the Olympus OM-D E-M5 original is affordable as a vintage weather-sealed MFT mirrorless. Condition checks: BLN-1 battery health, IBIS operation, EVF display quality, weather sealing. Note: 1080i (interlaced), not 1080p. Compatible with all Micro Four Thirds lenses.
