Olympus's premium PEN mirrorless — 16.1MP MFT with 5-axis IBIS, built-in WiFi, and retro rangefinder styling.
The Olympus PEN E-P5 launched in 2013 as the flagship of the PEN line, featuring the same 16.1MP Live MOS sensor and 5-axis IBIS as the OM-D E-M1 in a flat rangefinder-style body. It represented the pinnacle of PEN design with extensive manual controls and premium build.
Image quality matches the E-M1 of its era — good 16.1MP with 5-axis IBIS providing excellent stabilisation. 35-point contrast-detect AF. 9fps burst. 1/8000s mechanical shutter — unusual for its class. Full HD 1080p video. Creative Art Filters and Photo Story modes.
Premium magnesium alloy body at 420g. No built-in EVF — optional VF-4 EVF via hot shoe. 3-inch tilting touchscreen. Built-in WiFi. Dual control dials. 1/8000s top shutter speed. Hot shoe for EVF or flash. Focus peaking for manual focus lenses.
Available used at budget prices. The lack of built-in EVF is the main limitation — the VF-4 is excellent but adds cost and bulk. The E-P7 succeeded with updated sensor. A beautifully built camera with excellent IBIS — great for street photography with manual-focus lenses.
