Olympus's entry PEN — the E-PL3 with ultra-compact body and tiltable LCD.
The Olympus PEN E-PL3 is a compact MFT camera from 2011 with a 12.3MP Live MOS sensor. Part of the PEN Lite series, it features a tilting LCD, in-body stabilisation, and the full MFT lens ecosystem at a compact size. The E-PL3 simplified the PEN design for maximum accessibility and portability.
Image quality from 12.3MP is good for casual use. In-body stabilisation works with all MFT lenses. Fast contrast-detect AF. Art filters for creative JPEG effects. Full HD video. The tilting LCD provides flexible composition. The compact body pairs well with small MFT pancake lenses for a genuinely pocketable interchangeable lens system.
Micro Four Thirds mount. Weight is approximately 271 grams. Build quality is decent with a clean design. No built-in viewfinder or flash. Touchscreen on some versions. The E-PL series targeted upgrading compact camera users. WiFi not included. The PEN design provides a fashionable camera aesthetic.
Very cheap used. Check sensor and LCD hinge. Outdated but functional for casual MFT use. The in-body IS and MFT lens compatibility remain useful. Best at very low prices for budget MFT entry. Modern MFT cameras are dramatically more capable.
