Olympus's mid-range PEN — the E-PL6 with in-body IS and MFT compatibility.
The Olympus PEN E-PL6 is a mid-range PEN-series mirrorless camera from Olympus, introduced in 2013 as part of the lifestyle-oriented PEN range within the Micro Four Thirds system. It was notable for introducing built-in WiFi to the PEN line alongside an improved autofocus system.
The E-PL6 uses a 16-megapixel Live MOS sensor with 3-axis in-body image stabilisation, captures 1080p video, features a tilting touchscreen LCD, includes a built-in popup flash, and offers WiFi for smartphone control and image transfer. No electronic viewfinder socket is provided.
The E-PL6 updated the PEN line with WiFi connectivity and improved AF tracking over its predecessors, while keeping the compact lifestyle form factor. The 3-axis IBIS is less comprehensive than the 5-axis system in Olympus OM-D E-M5 bodies from the same period. The absence of an EVF is a common limitation across the PEN range.
Test IBIS effectiveness by checking handheld shot steadiness at slow shutter speeds. Verify WiFi connectivity and smartphone app pairing. Check the popup flash operation. Confirm touchscreen responsiveness on the tilting LCD. Inspect the body for the Micro Four Thirds lens mount wear.
