Olympus's ultra-compact MFT camera — the PEN E-PM1, the smallest interchangeable lens camera of its era.
The Olympus PEN E-PM1 (PEN Mini) was released in 2011 as the most compact interchangeable lens camera in the Micro Four Thirds system. Featuring a 12.3MP Live MOS sensor, it stripped the PEN design to its absolute minimum — no built-in flash, minimal controls, and the smallest possible body while retaining MFT lens interchangeability.
Image quality from the 12.3MP sensor is good for casual use. The MFT sensor provides depth of field control superior to compact cameras. Contrast AF is functional for casual shooting. No built-in viewfinder or flash — accessories required. Art filters provide creative JPEG effects. Touch-to-focus on the 3-inch touchscreen LCD.
Micro Four Thirds mount — compatible with all MFT lenses from Olympus, Panasonic, and third parties. Weight is approximately 217 grams body only — extremely compact. Build quality is basic but functional. The E-PM1 was designed for upgrading compact camera users who wanted lens interchangeability in the smallest possible package.
Very cheap on the used market. Check sensor, touchscreen, and AF functionality. The ultra-compact size with MFT lens compatibility remains appealing. Thoroughly outdated by modern MFT cameras but functional for casual photography. The small size pairs well with MFT pancake lenses for a genuinely pocketable interchangeable lens kit.
