Olympus half-frame SLR from 1966 with interchangeable PEN-mount lenses and TTL metering — the only half-frame SLR in the original PEN family.

The Olympus PEN FT (1966–1972) is a half-frame SLR from Olympus's PEN F-system — a unique interchangeable-lens half-frame single-lens reflex. Unlike the fixed-lens EE series, the PEN FT accepts all PEN F-mount lenses. It added TTL metering to the original PEN F via a beam-splitter metering system. The PEN F-system used a rotary metal focal-plane shutter.

The PEN FT is the most capable and desirable PEN F-series body — TTL metering added over the original PEN F, in the same compact half-frame SLR format. PEN F-mount lenses (38mm, 25mm, 60mm, 100mm, etc.) are interchangeable. The rotary shutter design eliminates the vertical slit travel typical of focal-plane shutters, enabling a 1/500s top speed in a very compact body. A significant collector and user item.

Test TTL metering beam-splitter accuracy — the metering system is distinctive and fragile in the PEN FT design. Check the rotary shutter at all speeds. Test PEN F-mount lens coupling and mounting. Inspect viewfinder for haze. Check the metering cell condition. Battery: PX625 — requires MR-9 adapter for modern silver oxide cells.
