Olympus's simple 7MP compact of 2007 — Japan name for the FE-220, 3x 38-114mm zoom, xD storage
The Olympus X-785 was the Japanese-market name for the compact sold in Europe and North America as the FE-220, released in 2007. It was part of the FE series of simple, fully automatic digital compacts that Olympus aimed at first-time buyers, and UK eBay examples commonly surface under the X-785 badge from grey imports.
It is built around a 7.1-megapixel CCD and a 3x optical zoom equivalent to 38-114mm, with a 2.5-inch LCD for framing and playback. A shake-proof anti-blur mode raises shutter speed to reduce blur from hand shake and subject movement, 13 scene modes cover common situations, and the shutter reaches 1/2000 second. Images record to xD-Picture Cards, and power comes from a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
Operation is entirely automatic, making it a fitting choice for buyers who want a pocketable CCD-era snapshot camera with no settings to learn. The modest resolution and blur reduction achieved by boosting ISO mean output is at its best in bright light, where its colour rendering is the main appeal.
Storage depends on the discontinued xD-Picture Card format, so an included card meaningfully improves value; cards must otherwise be bought second-hand. Check the small lithium-ion battery still holds charge and a charger is supplied, inspect the LCD for scratches, and run a test shot to rule out CCD faults.
