Olympus's rare shift lens for perspective correction — a specialised architectural tool for the OM system.
The Olympus Zuiko 35mm f/2.8 Shift is a rare specialised lens designed for perspective correction on Olympus OM mount cameras. Shift lenses allow the optical axis to be displaced relative to the film plane, enabling correction of converging verticals in architectural photography — a function normally requiring a large format camera or tilt-shift lens.
Optical performance is very good, especially for a shift lens. Sharpness is excellent in the centre and maintains quality across the shifted image circle. The 35mm focal length provides a useful moderate wide-angle perspective for architectural work. At f/2.8, it is usable for general photography when the shift function is not needed, though this is not its primary purpose.
Olympus OM mount, manual focus and manual shift. The shift mechanism allows approximately 10mm of movement. Filter thread is 49mm. Weight is approximately 320 grams. Build quality is excellent with precision mechanics for the shift mechanism. No tilt function — shift only. Extremely rare compared to Canon and Nikon's tilt-shift options.
Very rare on the used market and collectors' prices apply. Check for smooth shift mechanism operation and clean optics. The rarity makes it more of a collector's item than a practical tool — Canon and Nikon tilt-shift lenses adapted to mirrorless offer more functionality. Of interest primarily to OM system completists and vintage lens collectors.
