Olympus's budget telephoto for Four Thirds — another listing of the 40-150mm, same as ID 3500.
The Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/4-5.6 is a duplicate listing of the budget Four Thirds telephoto zoom described under ID 3500. Providing an 80-300mm equivalent range on the Four Thirds sensor, it offered affordable telephoto reach for entry-level Olympus DSLR cameras. The ED element provides some improvement over non-ED alternatives.
Optical performance is basic but functional for casual use. Centre sharpness is acceptable when stopped down. The ED element helps with chromatic aberration correction. Variable aperture limits low-light use. Adequate for daylight telephoto snapshots at a distance. The Four Thirds AF system may be sluggish when adapted to Micro Four Thirds bodies.
Four Thirds mount — requires MMF adapter for Micro Four Thirds bodies. Filter thread is 58mm. Weight is approximately 220 grams — very lightweight. Build quality is basic plastic. No weather sealing or stabilisation. The native Micro Four Thirds 40-150mm f/4-5.6 R is the better choice for MFT shooters, avoiding the adapter entirely.
Very cheap on the used market. Not worth deliberate purchase for MFT shooters when native MFT options exist at similar prices. Only of interest bundled with a Four Thirds camera body. The 40-150mm f/4 PRO is the premium MFT telephoto zoom upgrade.
