Olympus's macro lens for the original Four Thirds system — 120mm equivalent with outstanding optics.
The Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro is a dedicated macro lens for the original Four Thirds system, giving a 120mm equivalent field of view. Released around 2004, it provides true 1:1 magnification with the working distance advantage of a longer focal length. It was one of the standout lenses in the Four Thirds system, praised for its exceptional sharpness.
Optical performance is outstanding. Sharpness is exceptional at macro distances and excellent at portrait range. The ED element controls chromatic aberration effectively. As a dedicated macro lens on a smaller sensor, it provides extraordinary depth of field compared to full-frame macro equivalents — useful for insect and product photography where more of the subject needs to be in focus.
Four Thirds mount — note this is the original Four Thirds system, not Micro Four Thirds. It requires an MMF adapter to use on Micro Four Thirds bodies, which adds size but provides functional AF on most OM-D and PEN cameras. Filter thread is 52mm. Weight is approximately 185 grams — very compact. Dust and splash sealed construction.
Available on the used market at reasonable prices. Check AF operation and ensure the MMF adapter is included if intended for MFT bodies. The adapted AF performance on newer OM-D bodies is acceptable but not as fast as native MFT lenses. The Olympus M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 Macro is the native MFT replacement with better AF.
