Olympus's fast 24mm for the OM system — the rare f/2 wide-angle with premium optics.
The Olympus Zuiko MC 24mm f/2 is the fast version of Olympus's 24mm wide-angle for the OM mount system. At f/2, it is significantly faster than the more common 24mm f/2.8 version, providing a full stop more speed for low-light wide-angle work. The MC designation indicates multi-coating for improved contrast and flare resistance.
Optical performance is excellent. Sharpness is very good from f/2 and outstanding by f/4. The fast f/2 aperture at 24mm was unusual for the era and remains uncommon. The multi-coating provides effective flare resistance — important for a wide-angle lens. Distortion is well-controlled. Colour rendition has the warm Zuiko character.
Olympus OM mount, manual focus. Filter thread is 49mm — standard across the OM system. Weight is approximately 280 grams — compact for a fast wide-angle. Build quality is excellent with precision Zuiko metal construction. The f/2 speed makes it significantly more versatile than the f/2.8 version for low-light and DOF-control applications.
Less common than the f/2.8 version and commands a premium on the used market. Check for haze, fungus, and smooth focus ring. The extra speed at 24mm is genuinely useful for street, documentary, and low-light photography. One of the finest wide-angle options in the OM system. Adapts well to mirrorless — on MFT it becomes a 48mm f/2 equivalent.
