Rare mechanical Olympus OM film SLR with multi-spot metering — fully mechanical shutter works without batteries.
The OM System OM-3 was announced in February 2025, positioning between the OM-1 Mark II flagship and the compact OM-5 in the OM System lineup. It uses the same 20.4MP stacked BSI Live MOS sensor as the OM-1 Mark II and the same 1,053-point all-cross-type on-chip phase-detection AF system, combined with a body design closer in size and weight to the OM-5. IP53 dust and splash resistance with freeze protection to -10°C is built in. The BLX-1 battery — the professional tier battery shared with the OM-1 series — provides approximately 590 shots per charge.
The 20.4MP stacked BSI Live MOS sensor incorporates 1,053 all-cross-type phase-detection points with AI subject recognition for humans, animals, birds, vehicles, aircraft, trains, and insects. Burst shooting runs at 50fps with continuous AF/AE (SH2 mode) and 120fps with locked exposure (SH1 mode). 4K and C4K video records at up to 60fps. 5-axis IBIS with Dual IS 2 is built in. IP53 dust and splash resistance. Battery life approximately 590 shots standard mode using the BLX-1, body weight approximately 496g with battery and card, single SD UHS-II slot.
The OM-3's practical position is the OM-1 II sensor and AF in a body lighter than the OM-1 series: the same stacked sensor's 50fps C-AF burst and 1,053-point AI tracking is available in an IP53-sealed body at 496g versus the OM-1 II's heavier chassis. For wildlife and bird photographers who want the flagship tracking performance without the professional-body weight, the OM-3 provides this combination. The BLX-1 battery life exceeds the BLS-50 of the OM-5 significantly.
The OM-3 is a February 2025 product with limited used market availability. Condition checks when available: IP53 sealing at port covers, IBIS and Dual IS 2 operation, BLX-1 battery health (shared with OM-1 / OM-1 II), and SD slot contacts. Compatible with all Micro Four Thirds lenses from Olympus, OM System, and Panasonic; Dual IS 2 full cooperation requires compatible OM System PRO lenses.
