Panasonic/Leica's compact MFT wide prime — 30mm equiv at f/1.7 with Summilux quality in tiny package.
The Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. launched in 2014 as a compact wide-angle prime for Micro Four Thirds, providing 30mm equivalent at f/1.7. The Leica Summilux certification indicates it meets Leica's optical standards for f/1.7 maximum aperture.
Optically very good — sharp from f/2.5 with pleasant rendering at f/1.7. The Summilux designation from Leica guarantees optical quality. The 30mm equivalent is slightly wider than standard — excellent for environmental photography and street shooting. Quiet AF motor.
Micro Four Thirds mount with 46mm filter thread. Weighs just 115g — incredibly compact. No weather sealing. Minimum focus distance 20cm. Metal mount. 7 rounded aperture blades. Comes in black or silver finish.
Available used at budget to mid-range prices — excellent value for Leica-certified optics. The Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 pancake is smaller but optically inferior. The Olympus 17mm f/1.8 is the main competitor at slightly different FL. A charming wide prime for MFT street photography.
