Panasonic/Leica's premium MFT 50mm equiv prime — f/1.4 with Leica optical quality and smooth bokeh.
The Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH. launched in 2011 as a premium normal prime for Micro Four Thirds, providing 50mm equivalent at f/1.4. The Leica certification means it meets Leica's optical standards for resolution, contrast, and rendering.
Optically excellent — sharp from f/2 with beautiful bokeh rendering at f/1.4. The Summilux designation from Leica indicates f/1.4 maximum aperture. The 50mm equivalent perspective with f/1.4 provides decent subject separation despite MFT's greater depth of field.
Micro Four Thirds mount with 46mm filter thread. Weighs 200g — compact for the speed. No weather sealing on the original version — a Mark II added weather resistance. Minimum focus distance 30cm. 7 rounded aperture blades. Metal mount.
Available used at mid-range prices. The Mark II added weather sealing and is preferred for outdoor use. The Panasonic 25mm f/1.7 is much cheaper with 90% of the quality. For MFT shooters who want the Leica certification and the best possible 50mm equiv prime.
