Panasonic's entry bridge camera — 24x zoom with 14.1MP and iA mode for beginners.
The Panasonic Lumix FZ45 (FZ40 in some markets) launched in 2010 as an entry-level bridge camera with 24x optical zoom covering 25-600mm equivalent. It targeted casual photographers wanting more zoom than a compact without interchangeable lenses.
Uses a 14.1MP 1/2.33-inch CCD sensor. Image quality is typical of small-sensor bridge cameras from 2010. iA intelligent auto mode. Power O.I.S. stabilisation. 720p HD video — no Full HD. The 24x zoom provides useful range.
Built-in EVF plus 2.7-inch fixed LCD. 25-600mm f/2.8-5.2 zoom. 486g. SD card slot. iA mode with face detection. Built-in flash. AA batteries or rechargeable.
Very cheap used — essentially free. Completely outdated by modern standards. The CCD sensor and 720p video are very dated. Only useful at throwaway prices for extreme budget zoom needs. Check for smooth zoom mechanism operation.
