Panasonic's mid-range MFT camera with 16.1MP sensor, EVF, and articulating touchscreen — a solid all-rounder.
The Panasonic Lumix G5 launched in 2012 as a mid-range Micro Four Thirds camera featuring a 16.1MP Live MOS sensor with an integrated EVF and fully articulating touchscreen. It continued Panasonic's G-series tradition of DSLR-styled MFT cameras.
Image quality is good for MFT of its era — clean images to ISO 1600 with usable results at ISO 3200. Contrast-detect AF with 23-area focus. 6fps burst shooting. Full HD 1080p 60i video. Touch AF and touch shutter via the articulating screen.
Compact body at 396g with built-in EVF and pop-up flash. 3-inch vari-angle touchscreen. Single SD card slot. HDMI output. Micro Four Thirds mount — access to the full MFT lens ecosystem. Hot shoe for accessories. WiFi not included — pre-WiFi era.
Available used very cheaply. The lack of WiFi feels dated. The G6 and G7 improved significantly — the G7 added 4K video. A solid entry point for anyone wanting to try the Micro Four Thirds system at minimal cost. Check for sensor dust and LCD screen condition.
