Panasonic's popular mid-range MFT body with 5-axis IBIS and 4K video.
The Panasonic Lumix G80, known as the G85 in North America, launched in 2016 as Panasonic's first mid-range MFT body with 5-axis IBIS. With a 16MP sensor, weather sealing, 4K video, and IBIS, it brought features previously limited to the GX8 and GH4 to a more affordable price point.
Key features include 5-axis IBIS with approximately 5 stops of stabilisation, 4K 30fps video, weather sealing, a 3-inch vari-angle touchscreen, built-in EVF, and Dual IS compatibility with supported lenses. The body strikes a good balance between compactness and handling.
The G80 is praised for bringing IBIS and weather sealing to Panasonic's mid-range. It is criticised for the 16MP sensor resolution and the contrast-detect DFD AF which hunts in difficult conditions. The G90/G95 succeeded it with a 20MP sensor and improved AF.
Good value used. Check IBIS operation, weather seal integrity, and the vari-angle screen. The G80 remains a very capable mid-range MFT body, especially for video work. The G90 is a modest upgrade if found at a similar price.
