Panasonic's weather-sealed MFT all-rounder — the G85, EVF, IBIS, 4K, articulating screen, 2016.
The Panasonic Lumix G85 was a mid-range Micro Four Thirds mirrorless body launched in 2016, sold as the G80 in much of Europe and the G81 in some markets. It sat in the middle of Panasonic's G line, above the entry GX and GF models and below the video-focused GH series, aimed at enthusiasts wanting a weather-resistant all-rounder.
This is a Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera taking the MFT lens mount. It has a built-in electronic viewfinder and a fully articulating touchscreen, and it includes in-body image stabilisation that can combine with lens stabilisation for shake correction. The body is weather-sealed and records 4K video. Composition is through the EVF or rear LCD; there is no optical finder.
The articulating screen, in-body stabilisation and sealed body make it a practical travel and documentary tool that handles handheld stills and video without a tripod in many situations. The smaller Four Thirds sensor keeps lenses compact, which suits photographers who value a light, self-contained kit over the ultimate low-light reach of larger formats.
On the used market, check the shutter actuation count against its rated life and confirm the shutter fires cleanly. Listen for excessive IBIS rattle when the camera is off, inspect the sensor for dust and marks, and test the articulating LCD and EVF for dead or stuck pixels. Check the card and battery door latches, the hinge on the vari-angle screen, and the weather-seal rubber and grip for degradation. Confirm the DMW-BLC12 battery holds charge; aftermarket cells are available.
