Panasonic's compact rangefinder-style MFT camera with 20.3MP sensor, 5-axis IBIS, and tilting EVF.
The Panasonic Lumix GX9 launched in 2018 as a compact rangefinder-style Micro Four Thirds camera. It features a 20.3MP sensor with no low-pass filter for maximum sharpness, 5-axis Dual I.S. 2 stabilisation, and a unique tilting EVF.
Image quality is good for MFT — the no-OLPF sensor extracts strong detail. 5-axis IBIS provides excellent stabilisation. DFD contrast-detect AF is adequate for general use but lacks phase-detect speed for fast action. 9fps burst electronic, 6fps mechanical.
Compact magnesium alloy body at 450g. 3-inch tilting touchscreen. Tilting EVF folds flat for street discretion. 4K 30p video with 4K Photo mode. L.Monochrome D mode for high-contrast B&W. Post Focus function. WiFi and Bluetooth. SD card slot.
Available used at budget to mid-range prices. A charming compact for street and travel photographers. The tilting EVF is a unique feature. The GX8 predecessor is weather sealed while the GX9 is not. Successor G100 shifted focus to vlogging. A favourite for discreet shooting.
