The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30 (ZS20 in North America) was released approximately 2012 as a travel zoom compact featuring a 14.1MP 1/2.33-inch CCD sensor and a 20× optical zoom covering 24-480mm equivalent. 1080p/30fps video. Built-in GPS for geotagging. At approximately 200g.
14.1MP 1/2.33-inch CCD. 20× optical zoom (24-480mm equivalent), f/3.3-6.4. 1080p/30fps. Built-in GPS for location tagging. 3D capture mode. MEGA O.I.S. At approximately 200g. Fixed zoom — no interchangeable mount.
The TZ30's built-in GPS was a differentiating feature for travel photography: geotagging images with location data directly in-camera was useful before smartphones became the default travel camera. The 20× zoom (24-480mm equivalent) covers ultra-wide to super-telephoto reach. The 1/2.33-inch CCD limits low-light performance but delivers good colour in adequate light.
On the used market the Panasonic Lumix TZ30/ZS20 is very affordable as a vintage travel zoom compact. Condition checks: CCD sensor for hot pixels, GPS function, zoom mechanism, battery health. Fixed 20× zoom — no interchangeable mount.
