Panasonic's pocket travel compact with 30x zoom, GPS, and EVF — 24-720mm equivalent in a shirt pocket.
The Panasonic Lumix TZ60 (ZS40 in North America) launched in 2014 as a pocket travel zoom with 30x optical zoom covering 24-720mm equivalent. It was one of the first pocket compacts to include both a built-in EVF and GPS, targeting serious travellers.
Uses an 18.1MP 1/2.3-inch MOS sensor. Image quality is typical for the sensor size — acceptable in good light with rapid degradation in low light. Intelligent Auto mode performs well. The 30x zoom range is the main attraction. Power O.I.S. stabilisation helps at long focal lengths.
Built-in EVF — small but useful in bright conditions. 3-inch fixed LCD. Built-in GPS and GLONASS for geotagging. WiFi and NFC. 1080p 60i video. RAW shooting. 240g pocket-sized body. USB charging. Full manual exposure controls available.
Very cheap used. The EVF and GPS combination was unusual at this price. The TZ70 successor improved slightly. Image quality cannot match 1-inch sensor compacts like the TZ100 or Sony RX100. A capable pocket travel camera for those who prioritise zoom range.
