Panasonic's travel zoom compact with Leica lens, 30x optical zoom, and 4K video.
The Panasonic Lumix TZ80, known as the ZS60 in North America, is a pocket travel zoom compact camera launched in 2016. It packs a 30x optical zoom covering 24-720mm equivalent into a pocket-sized body, making it an all-in-one solution for travellers who want extreme zoom range without a bag full of lenses.
Key features include the 30x Leica DC Vario-Elmar zoom lens, 18.1MP 1/2.3-inch sensor, 4K video, built-in electronic viewfinder, 3-inch touchscreen, and Wi-Fi connectivity. The Post Focus mode allows selecting focus point after capture. The small sensor limits dynamic range and high-ISO quality.
The TZ80 competes with the Canon PowerShot SX series, Sony RX100 line, and other pocket superzooms. The trade-off is always zoom range versus image quality: the Sony RX100 has a much better sensor but far less zoom. The TZ80 prioritises reach over quality.
Cheap used. Check the zoom mechanism for smooth operation across the full 30x range, the EVF for dead pixels, and battery health. The TZ100 and TZ200 offer a larger 1-inch sensor with less zoom and better quality. The TZ80 is best for those who value extreme zoom range above all.
