Pentax's budget APS-C telephoto — same family as IDs 1125/1320/1496, non-WR version.
The Pentax DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED is the non-weather-resistant version of Pentax's budget APS-C telephoto zoom covering 75-300mm equivalent. Without WR sealing — the basic variant best suited for fair-weather outdoor photography.
Optically basic but functional — ED glass provides improved chromatic aberration control over non-ED alternatives. Body-driven screw AF with speed dependent on the camera body motor. Pentax in-body SR stabilisation compensates for the absence of lens-based optical IS.
Pentax K mount with 49mm filter thread at approximately 260g — very lightweight and compact for an APS-C telephoto zoom. No weather sealing on this version — the WR variants (IDs 1125/1320/1496) add moisture and dust protection for outdoor use.
Available used very cheaply — one of the most affordable quality telephoto options for Pentax. The WR versions are strongly preferred for outdoor shooting. The HD DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED WR PLM offers dramatically improved AF motor and extended range.
