Pentax's compact Limited wide-angle — the HD DA 21mm f/3.2 pancake for K-mount APS-C.
The Pentax HD DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited is the HD-coated version of the popular Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 Limited, one of Pentax's acclaimed compact Limited-series primes for APS-C cameras. HD (High Definition) coating provides improved light transmission and flare resistance over the earlier SMC coating.
The lens delivers 21mm (32mm equivalent on APS-C) at f/3.2 maximum aperture with HD coating, AL aspherical element, compact metal Limited-series build quality, and DA APS-C image circle. The 32mm equivalent is a natural moderate wide-angle.
The Limited series represents Pentax's premium APS-C prime lineup — small, precisely built, and optically excellent. The DA 21mm is the wide-angle member alongside the 40mm and 70mm Limited primes. The HD coating update specifically improves flare control in backlit conditions versus the original SMC version.
Test focus ring smoothness — Limited-series lenses are noted for their tactile quality. Verify HD coating uniformity under angled light. Check AL element condition. Inspect the compact metal barrel for dents.
