Pentax's enthusiast APS-C DSLR — 16.3MP with excellent image quality, weather sealing, and in-body SR.
The Pentax K-5 launched in 2010 as Pentax's flagship APS-C DSLR, featuring a 16.3MP Sony-sourced CMOS sensor delivering class-leading image quality. Its weather sealing, in-body SR stabilisation, and excellent high-ISO performance made it a favourite among outdoor photographers.
The 16.3MP sensor delivers outstanding dynamic range and low-noise high-ISO — clean to ISO 3200 with usable results at ISO 12800. 11-point AF with 9 cross-type sensors — SAFOX IX system. 7fps burst. In-body SR (Shake Reduction) works with every K-mount lens.
Weather-sealed magnesium alloy body at 660g. 3-inch fixed LCD at 921k dots. Dual SD card slots. Built-in AF motor for screw-drive lenses. 100% viewfinder coverage. Full HD 1080p 25fps video. TAv and Sv exposure modes unique to Pentax.
Available used very cheaply — outstanding value. The K-5 II improved AF and the K-3 pushed resolution. The sensor quality rivalled much more expensive cameras. Check for mirror box issues on early units. One of the best APS-C DSLRs of its generation at bargain used prices.
