Pentax's weather-sealed entry DSLR — the K-50 with in-body SR and all-weather protection.
The Pentax K-50 was released in 2013 as an entry-level APS-C DSLR with weather sealing — extremely unusual at this price point. Featuring a 16MP CMOS sensor with in-body Shake Reduction, it provided Pentax's signature rugged outdoor capability in a budget body. Available in numerous colour combinations for personal customisation.
Image quality from the 16MP sensor is good with excellent colour reproduction. In-body SR works with any K-mount lens — including decades of vintage manual focus glass. The weather sealing (81 seals for dust and splash resistance) is the standout feature at the entry level. 6fps continuous shooting. 1080p video. 11-point AF system with 9 cross-type points.
Pentax K mount — compatible with every K-mount lens ever made. Weight is approximately 590 grams body only. Build quality includes weather sealing at a price point where competitors offered no protection. Available in over 100 colour combinations. Optical viewfinder with 100% coverage — impressive for the class. AA battery option via adapter.
Very affordable on the used market. Check weather seal condition and shutter count. The weather sealing at entry-level pricing was revolutionary. The in-body SR with universal K-mount compatibility remains genuinely useful. An excellent outdoor photography DSLR at budget prices. Modern mirrorless cameras are more capable but rarely offer this level of weather protection at this price.
