Pentax's mid-range DSLR from 2009 — the K-7 with weather sealing and in-body stabilisation.
The Pentax K-7 is a mid-range APS-C DSLR from 2009 featuring a 14.6MP CMOS sensor, in-body Shake Reduction stabilisation, and full weather sealing. It was one of the most rugged mid-range DSLRs available, with dust, splash, and freeze resistance to -10°C. The K-7 represented Pentax's serious enthusiast offering with professional-grade environmental protection.
Image quality from the 14.6MP sensor is good for the era with excellent colour and dynamic range. The in-body SR stabilisation works with any K-mount lens — including 50-year-old manual focus lenses. The 11-point AF system is adequate. 5.2fps continuous shooting. 1080p video was included — early for DSLRs. The pentaprism viewfinder provides 100% coverage.
Pentax K mount — compatible with every K-mount lens ever made. Weight is approximately 670 grams body only. Build quality is outstanding with full magnesium alloy weather sealing. Dual SD card slots. The weather sealing means the K-7 can be used confidently in rain and snow when paired with WR-designated Pentax lenses.
Very affordable on the used market. Check shutter count, weather seal condition, and sensor for hot pixels. The weather sealing and in-body SR remain genuinely useful features. The K-7 is thoroughly outclassed by modern cameras in resolution and video capability but remains a capable and durable photographic tool for still images.
