Pentax's mid-range DSLR from 2008 — the K20D with Samsung-developed 14.6MP sensor.
The Pentax K20D is a mid-range APS-C DSLR introduced in 2008, notable for offering weather and dust sealing at a price point below rival sealed bodies from Canon and Nikon. It competed directly with the Canon EOS 40D and Nikon D300 while undercutting their prices significantly.
The K20D uses a 14.6-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, provides 77-point weather and dust sealing, includes in-body Shake Reduction (SR) stabilisation effective with all K-mount lenses regardless of whether they have optical stabilisation, and offers a 3fps burst rate with a 2.7-inch rear LCD.
The in-body SR system means any K-mount lens — including older manual-focus glass — benefits from stabilisation, which was a compelling differentiator in 2008. The weather sealing at a mid-tier price was unusual for the era. Sensor performance was competitive, particularly at lower ISOs.
Test the Shake Reduction mechanism by verifying it activates smoothly and produces stable images in low-light handheld shots. Inspect weather seals around doors, dials, and the lens mount for cracking or compression damage. Check the shutter count against rated lifespan, and clean the sensor if dusty.
