Pentax's mid-range DSLR from 2008 — the K20D with Samsung-developed 14.6MP sensor.
The Pentax K20D was released in 2008 as Pentax's mid-range APS-C DSLR featuring a 14.6MP Samsung-developed CMOS sensor. It was one of the first Pentax DSLRs with live view capability. Weather sealed with in-body Shake Reduction, it provided Pentax's signature rugged outdoor capability. The K20D was well-regarded for image quality and build.
Image quality from the 14.6MP sensor is good with excellent colour and dynamic range for the era. In-body SR works with all K-mount lenses. Weather sealed with 72 seals for dust and splash resistance. 21fps continuous shooting at reduced resolution. 11-point AF with 9 cross-type. Live view was new for Pentax DSLRs. 1080p video not available.
Pentax K mount — compatible with every K-mount lens. Weight is approximately 715 grams. Build quality is excellent with weather sealing. The Samsung-developed sensor provided competitive image quality. Dual slot (SD and SDHC). The K20D represented a significant step forward from the K10D with improved sensor and live view.
Very affordable on the used market. Check weather seals and shutter count. A capable weather-sealed DSLR at budget pricing. The in-body SR with universal K-mount lens compatibility remains useful. Outdated by modern standards but functional for still photography. The K-5 is the natural upgrade.
