Pentax's flagship professional SLR with weather sealing, titanium shutter, and K mount.
The Pentax LX is Pentax's flagship professional 35mm SLR, launched in 1980 to mark the company's heritage and compete with the Nikon F3 and Canon New F-1. It features weather sealing throughout the body, an interchangeable viewfinder system, and a titanium shutter rated for 150,000 actuations of professional-grade reliability.
The camera combines electronic and mechanical shutter control, with mechanical speeds from 1/75 to 1/2000 functioning without batteries as a fail-safe. The TTL metering system offers both centre-weighted and spot metering through interchangeable viewfinders. The Pentax K mount provides access to one of the largest lens ecosystems in photography.
Build quality is exceptional with a compact, dense body that feels substantially more robust than its modest size suggests. The weather sealing was revolutionary for its time, making the LX one of the first professional SLRs designed to operate reliably in rain, dust, and extreme temperature conditions.
Highly collectible and still actively used by film photographers, the Pentax LX is considered one of the finest 35mm SLRs ever made. On the used market it commands strong prices, particularly for well-preserved examples. The combination of professional features, compact size, and K-mount compatibility makes it uniquely appealing.
