Pentax's AF fast fifty — the F 50mm f/1.7 with autofocus in K-mount.

The SMC Pentax-F 50mm f/1.7 is part of Pentax's F-series lens range introduced in the mid-1980s to support autofocus on the Pentax SFx camera bodies. It uses Pentax's Super Multi Coated (SMC) glass and an aperture-coupling for the screwdriver-driven AF system. A standard normal prime for 35mm film photography in the Pentax K-mount system.

50mm focal length, f/1.7 maximum aperture, SMC (Super Multi Coated) elements, Pentax K bayonet mount, screwdriver-driven AF when used on compatible AF bodies, 49mm filter thread.

The SMC F 50mm f/1.7 is a reliable normal prime for everyday film photography. Central sharpness at f/1.7 is good; corner performance improves markedly from f/2.8. SMC coating delivers good contrast and neutral colour rendering. A practical and affordable normal prime for the Pentax K ecosystem.
