Pentax's 67-era medium tele — the SMC Pentax 67 200mm f/4 for the 6x7 frame.
The SMC Pentax 67 200mm f/4 is a telephoto lens for the Pentax 6x7 medium-format system, from the SMC Pentax 67 generation of the line. It is the later-branded version of the system's medium telephoto, following the earlier Super-Takumar 6x7 and SMC Pentax 6x7 200mm optics with updated coating for the 6x7 negative.
This is a manual-focus lens for the Pentax 67 bayonet mount, covering the 6x7 cm frame. It has a fixed 200mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/4. On the large negative a 200mm gives a moderate telephoto reach, and the Super Multi Coating denoted by the SMC prefix controls flare and holds contrast on the telephoto field.
The 200mm compresses perspective and brings distant subjects closer on the 6x7 frame, working for landscapes, environmental portraits and general longer-reach photography. This later version benefits from the mature coating of the 67-era line, keeping contrast up in demanding light on the big negative.
On the used market this 67-branded telephoto is a practical and reasonably common member of the line. Check the elements for haze and cleaning marks, look for fungus, and confirm the aperture blades are dry with a smooth focus action. It adapts to mirrorless through a Pentax 67 mount adapter for use on digital bodies.
