Pentax's vintage M42 telephoto — manual-focus 200mm f/4 with classic Takumar optics.
The Pentax Takumar 200mm f/4 is a manual-focus telephoto prime from Pentax's M42 screw-mount Takumar lens line. Various versions exist including the Super Takumar and SMC Takumar — the SMC version having Pentax's multi-coating for better contrast.
Optically good for its era — sharp from f/5.6 with the 200mm focal length providing useful telephoto reach for portraits and distant subjects. The Takumar optics are well-regarded with pleasant colour rendition. Manual focus with a long, smooth focus throw.
M42 screw mount — adapts easily to virtually every mirrorless camera via simple adapters. Approximately 49mm filter thread on most versions. Manual aperture ring. Metal construction throughout. The M42 mount's universal adaptability keeps these lenses relevant.
Available used very cheaply. The M42 mount adapts to all mirrorless cameras — Sony E, Fuji X, MFT, Nikon Z, Canon RF. Check for radioactive thorium glass in some SMC versions (yellowing). The Takumar name carries heritage. A budget manual-focus telephoto for mirrorless adaption.
